about

At the heart of this patch is the Bernoulli Gate, a module within Drambo. A sequence of notes flows in, which is then routed to either gate A or gate B at random, with probability weighted to either one of the gates. Gate A triggers the soft horn voice, made up of three detuned sine wave oscillators, and gate B triggers the FM bell voice. The two parts do not overlap. One sequence is shifting between the two gates at random. An LFO on the horn modulates wave shape, while a stereo delay on the bell adds a rhythmic element. The bell voice then feeds into a buffer that is pitched lower and further manipulated to create the third voice in the bass that follows the bell. The sequence going into the Bernoulli Gate is an arpeggio of the Gycritonic scale in downward mode, with a 'chance' module affecting note density, and a 'humanizer' adding variation to the velocity and timing. Original name of the patch - Arp 2 Gates, version 3.

The track presented is a fully-generative 12-minute piece with performance consisting only of starting and stopping the transport using TouchOSC mapped to Drambo. It was captured on the iPad Air 3 using 4Pockets Multitrack within Drambo to a single stereo track, then played through a 'Blackhole' reverb on the Eventide Space pedal and recorded to a single stereo track in Cakewalk on the PC. Mastering was done in T-Racks using the EQP-1A equalizer, Dyna-Mu compressor, and Stealth Limiter.
