about

A generative ambient piece featuring the voice of the Moog Mother 32 analog mono-synth. Eventide TimeFactor and Space add complex layers and textures.

The Mother 32 patch is based on a pulse wave with slow attack, long decay, and sustain on. The assign out is set to receive MIDI CC messages. A randomly modulated LFO running in Rozeta LFO sending CC modulates the Mother 32 filter cutoff and step tempo. An 8-note minor pentatonic pattern with glides between steps runs on the Mother 32. Key modulation is received from a five-note minor pentatonic sequence in Riffer running on the iPad. The two sequences of differing lengths running at different rates create a randomized melodic structure while tempo is constantly being shifted by the LFO.

Notes from the Mother 32 flow into the TimeFactor using a BandDelay which applies a band pass filter to the stereo delay lines that are generated. Filter cutoff amount of the delay is modulated by an LFO internal to the TimeFactor. The Eventide Space using a Blackhole reverb (modified 'Nebula' preset) adds to the harmonic complexity, lengthens the decay, and further enriches the soundscape.

The output of the Space is recorded to a single stereo AUM channel with Limiter applied which adds a degree of saturation to the mix. Minimal post-processing in Cool Edit Pro applies mild compression then normalization.

Performance of the piece is only the starting and stopping of the Mother 32 and Riffer sequences.
